American tennis player Coco Gauff saw her title defense at the China Open cut short, falling in the semifinals to Amanda Anisimova, who won with a score of 6-1 and 6-2.
Anisimova, seeded number three and Gauff’s compatriot, demonstrated her superiority on the court, needing only 58 minutes to secure her place in the final. This result marks an important milestone for Anisimova, who will seek the championship after having been runner-up in both the US Open and Wimbledon this year.
In the final, Anisimova will face Jessica Pegula, seeded number five, or Linda Noskova, who is ranked 26th.
Noskova, at just 20 years old, became the youngest Czech player to reach the semifinals of a WTA 1000 since this format was introduced in 2009.
