Coco Gauff Conquers Wuhan Open in All-American Final
In an exciting all-American final, Coco Gauff won the Wuhan Open after defeating Jessica Pegula with a score of 6-4, 7-5. Gauff, displaying a solid and strategic game, secured her second title of the year and the eleventh of her professional career. The young tennis player demonstrated her ability to react by winning four consecutive games, thus sealing her triumph in the tournament. The match was full of tense moments. Gauff, ranked third, had to save the second set when Pegula was up 5-3. Gauff managed to hold her serve and then broke Pegula’s serve, tying the score at 5-5. Pegula, ranked number six in the world, saw her luck run out when a forehand volley into the net went wide, giving Gauff her first match point. Gauff seized the opportunity and, after a brief exchange, secured the victory with a powerful forehand. Pegula, 31, had achieved an outstanding performance by defeating Aryna Sabalenka, the world number one, in the semifinals. However, on this occasion, she could not maintain the pace and lost the opportunity to obtain her tenth title. Gauff becomes the second American to win the Wuhan Open, following in the footsteps of Venus Williams, who achieved it in 2015. This was the seventh match between Gauff and Pegula, and the first in a final. Pegula leads the head-to-head with 4 wins to Gauff’s 3, with whom she has won several WTA doubles titles.Winning every match of the tournament in straight sets, I don’t know if I had achieved that before in a title run. I feel very proud of what I achieved this week, regardless of today’s result.

Gauff now has an 11-3 record in finals, while Pegula is left with a 9-11 record. We’ve spent a lot of time together and, although I’m a bit older, I always admire and respect her very much. She is very mature for her age.
