Cobolli Comeback and Advances to the Hamburg Open Final
Flavio Cobolli achieved an impressive comeback this Friday, overcoming Tomás Martín Etcheverry in an exciting match that led him to the final of the Hamburg Open. The final score was 2-6, 7-5, 6-4, securing his match against Andrey Rublev in the fight for the title.
Cobolli, after losing the first set, found himself at a 3-1 disadvantage in the second, but demonstrated his ability to recover and fought to secure his place in the final. This will be his second final of the season.
Rublev, for his part, advanced with ease, defeating Felix Auger-Aliassime with a score of 6-1, 6-4. Rublev, winner in Hamburg in 2020 and finalist in 2019, will seek his second title of the year, after his victory at the Qatar Open.
Etcheverry, recognized for his skill on clay courts, achieved his first break points in the sixth game, converting the third opportunity to go up 4-2. Subsequently, he broke the service of Cobolli, who at that moment had accumulated 18 unforced errors, tripling those of his opponent, and took advantage of the third set point.
Etcheverry maintained the pressure, with deep shots that allowed him to break serve again and take a 3-1 lead at the start of the second set.
Cobolli reacted, reducing his errors and pushing Etcheverry to the baseline with longer exchanges.
Cobolli broke the world number 55’s serve twice to go up 6-5 and then secured the set on his serve.
In the decisive set, both players held their serve until Cobolli managed a break to go up 5-4, and then converted his first match point.
The main draw of the French Open will begin on Sunday at Roland-Garros, where Rublev is seeded 17th.
