South American Tennis Players Cleared After Doping Investigation
London – Three South American tennis players have been cleared to resume their sporting careers after being exonerated by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) following an investigation into doping related to contaminated meat.
Conner Huertas del Pino (Peru), Mateo Barreiros Reyes (Brazil) and Andrés Urrea (Colombia) tested positive for boldenone, a banned anabolic steroid, while competing in an ATP Challenger event in Bogotá, Colombia, last May.
The ITIA declared that the players unintentionally consumed contaminated meat and presented evidence and documentation to support their case, including detailed receipts and information about the origin of the meat consumed during the tournament.
The ITIA made its findings public on Wednesday.
