Bublik Conquers Halle Open for Second Time, Overcoming Medvedev

In an exciting final played this Sunday, Alexander Bublik achieved a resounding victory over Daniil Medvedev with scores of 6-3, 7-6 (4), thus securing his second title at the Halle Open. This triumph marks a significant milestone for Bublik, being his first victory in seven encounters against Medvedev. The Kazakh player, who had already won the tournament in 2023, joins a select group of tennis players who have managed to conquer the title more than once, along with Yevgeny Kafelnikov and the legendary Roger Federer.

“Daniil, I have been cursed to play against you forever and never won a set in my life, but today I am happy to achieve it, and I wish you, you are a great champion, I wish you much success. It is a privilege for me to beat you here,” Bublik expressed after the match.

Bublik, who previously defeated Jannik Sinner in the second round, demonstrated a solid game from the start, including a streak of 12 consecutive points in the first set. Although the second set presented some challenges, with five double faults, Medvedev made crucial errors in the tiebreak, allowing Bublik to seal the victory in 81 minutes. Medvedev, who defeated Alexander Zverev in the semifinals, reached his first final since his loss to Carlos Alcaraz in Indian Wells in March 2024.

“A better week, perhaps, than we expected, but not the best feeling in the end. We will try to do better next time,” commented Medvedev.
