Lois Boisson, the sensation of the French Open, has experienced a meteoric rise in the WTA ranking, climbing 296 positions after her outstanding participation in Roland Garros.
The French tennis player, who was ranked 361st before reaching the semifinals of the Grand Slam on clay last week, is now ranked 65th in the latest update of the rankings published on Monday.
Coco Gauff, who defeated Boisson in the semifinals, was crowned champion of the French Open. At the top of the women’s ranking there were no changes, with Aryna Sabalenka leading, followed by Gauff and Jessica Pegula.Sabalenka was defeated by Gauff in the Roland Garros final.
Boisson, who received an invitation to participate in Paris, surprised Jessica Pegula, the third seed, to reach the quarterfinals. Then, she defeated Mirra Andreeva, ranked sixth, before Gauff ended her unexpected run. Carlos Alcaraz, after retaining his title on Sunday in the longest final in the history of Roland Garros, facing Jannik Sinner, who holds the first position in the ranking, remained in second place in the ATP men’s ranking, behind his Italian rival.Despite the defeat, Sinner increased his lead to 2,030 points because Alcaraz, as defending champion, couldn’t add points. Sinner gained 500 points by reaching the final, after having lost in the semifinals the previous year.
Alexander Zverev, ranked third, lost 900 points after his defeat to Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals. Djokovic rose to fifth place, behind Jack Draper, who is in fourth place.
