Cam Norrie was eliminated from the Cincinnati Open after a straight-sets defeat to Roberto Bautista Agut on Sunday.

At certain moments in the match, the British number 2 tennis player seemed to be struggling under the high temperatures, ultimately being defeated with a score of 6-4, 6-3.

Norrie’s previous participation was at the Canadian Open, where he fell to Aleksandar Vukic in the second round. His preparation for the US Open continued on Sunday in Cincinnati, where he received a bye to the second round to face Spanish veteran Bautista Agut, in a rematch of their first-round encounter at Wimbledon this summer, where Norrie emerged victorious.

Bautista Agut started strong in the first set, breaking Norrie’s serve in the fourth game and managing to hold his serve after some long games. Norrie, visibly soaked in sweat, served in the eighth game and changed his shirt before the deuce, where he prevented Bautista Agut from taking the set and finally got his first break point in the next game. However, in the tenth game he committed a double fault, allowing the Spaniard to break serve and win the set. During the second set, Norrie continued to show signs of discomfort, but remained competitive, with a brave performance that allowed him to save four match points to win the eighth game, despite having committed three double faults.
