Facundo Bagnis, provisionally suspended for doping
Argentine tennis player Facundo Bagnis has begun a voluntary provisional suspension after testing positive for a banned substance. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced the news this Thursday.
The test was conducted during the US Open qualifying phase in August. Bagnis, 35, was notified of the result this month and chose to begin the provisional suspension last week. The detected substance belongs to the category of diuretics and masking agents.
In the US Open, Bagnis suffered his sixth consecutive defeat in the Grand Slam qualifying rounds.
Bagnis reached the number 55 position in the ATP ranking, his best position, in 2016.
If Bagnis’ suspension becomes a sanction, the provisional suspension time will be counted as part of it.
