The young tennis player Mirra Andreeva, ranked number 7, continues her outstanding performance at Wimbledon by advancing to the round of 16 for the third consecutive time in a Grand Slam tournament.

Andreeva secured her place in the next round after defeating American Hailey Baptiste with a score of 6-1 and 6-3 in a match played this Saturday.

With this victory, 18-year-old Andreeva becomes the youngest player to reach the round of 16 in the first three Grand Slam tournaments of the season, since Nicole Vaidisova achieved it in 2006 at the age of 17.

Baptiste, who had reached the third round in consecutive tournaments after not having advanced past the second round previously, was looking to become the second unseeded American woman to reach the round of 16 at the All England Club in the last decade.

The match was played on court one with the roof closed due to the rain, which forced the suspension of play on the outside courts for more than an hour.

Andreeva now awaits the winner of the match between the current Wimbledon champion, Barbora Krejcikova (number 17), and Emma Navarro, the highest-ranked American in the tournament, ranked number 10.

Andreeva, originally from Russia, had already reached the fourth round of Wimbledon in 2023. Her best performance in a Grand Slam was at the French Open last year, where she reached the semifinals.

In other women’s results on Saturday, Liudmila Samsonova, seeded number 19, defeated her Russian compatriot Daria Kasatkina, seeded number 16, with a score of 6-2 and 6-3.
