Alcaraz Misses Davis Cup Due to Injury

Carlos Alcaraz will not be able to fulfill his dream of winning the Davis Cup for Spain this year. The world number one tennis player announced his withdrawal from the Davis Cup final in Italy due to a hamstring injury. Alcaraz, through his social media, expressed his regret for not being able to represent Spain in Bologna. The doctors recommended the decision due to an edema in his right hamstring.

I am very sorry to announce that I will not be able to play for Spain in the Davis Cup in Bologna. I have edema in my right hamstring and the medical recommendation is not to compete.

The injury occurred during last week’s ATP Finals, where muscle overload and inflammation in the right hamstring were diagnosed. Alcaraz debuted in the Davis Cup in 2022 and has an overall record of 6-2, with 5-1 in singles. Spain last won the tournament in 2019. The Spanish tennis player also missed the 2023 Davis Cup due to physical problems. Last year, Alcaraz and Spain were eliminated in the initial phase of the Final 8 in Malaga. Alcaraz, who has expressed his desire to win the Davis Cup, was going to lead Spain in Bologna on Thursday against the Czech Republic, seeded number 4, in the quarterfinals. The Czechs have top 20 players like Jiri Lehecka and Jakub Mensik, who eliminated the United States in the qualifying round in September. On Sunday, Alcaraz secured the number 1 ranking at the end of the year before losing to Jannik Sinner at the ATP Finals. He also finished at number 1 in 2022, being the youngest to achieve it at 19 years old. This year, Alcaraz won the French Open and the US Open, adding six Grand Slam titles.
