Alcaraz Conquers the US Open 2025: A New Era in Men’s Tennis

New York – Carlos Alcaraz celebrated his victory at the 2025 US Open with euphoria, a triumph that established him as the undisputed champion at Arthur Ashe Stadium. After defeating his rival, Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz knelt down, reflecting the intensity of the match. The final, witnessed by a crowd of 24,000 spectators, turned into an epic duel. Alcaraz and Sinner, rivals on the court but friends off it, starred in a high-level match. The match, with sky-high ticket prices and the world number one at stake, was a must-see event for tennis fans. Alcaraz won with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, achieving his sixth Grand Slam title. Alcaraz’s victory marked the third consecutive Grand Slam final between both players, solidifying the “Sincaraz” rivalry.

“I see you more than my family,” Alcaraz joked during the trophy presentation ceremony, looking at Sinner.

Novak Djokovic, after his semi-final match, acknowledged the difficulty of facing Alcaraz and Sinner, anticipating a future dominated by these two tennis players. Sunday’s final represented the first season since 2002 without the presence of any member of the “Big Three” (Djokovic, Federer and Nadal) in a Grand Slam final, marking the beginning of a new era. The Alcaraz-Sinner duo has won the last eight Grand Slam titles, with four titles each, raising the question of whether anyone else will be able to compete in the near future.
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have dominated world tennis, winning the last eight Grand Slam titles. In 2023, Alcaraz had already won two important titles, while Sinner was emerging as a promising player. Djokovic, for his part, was showing a high level and aspired to break records. Sinner, after winning the Australian Open in 2024, inaugurated the “Sincaraz” era. In the last eight Grand Slams, Alcaraz and Sinner have played four finals against other players, including Djokovic, Taylor Fritz, Daniil Medvedev, and Alexander Zverev. Fritz and Zverev acknowledged the superiority of Alcaraz and Sinner, highlighting their constant improvement.
“We know they are the two best players in the world,” Novak Djokovic said at the US Open. Other players, such as Ben Shelton, have also shown potential. Shelton has won three titles and reached the semi-finals of a Grand Slam.

“I think those two, now, over the next few years, are the ones to beat,” said Mary Joe Fernandez, ESPN analyst.

The young Brazilian Joao Fonseca is another name to keep in mind. Former tennis player John Isner believes that Fonseca could be the one to challenge Alcaraz and Sinner.
This year, Sinner won the Australian Open and Wimbledon, while Alcaraz conquered Wimbledon and the US Open. Currently, there is a gap of almost 5,000 points between Alcaraz, Sinner and the world number 3, Zverev. Alcaraz and Sinner demonstrated their dominance at the US Open, winning the majority of their service games. After Sinner’s match against Bublik, the latter commented, “You are very good. I am not bad, what the f***?” Alcaraz and Sinner have been the only ones to win all Grand Slam titles in two consecutive seasons. While Medvedev seemed to be the successor to the “Big Three”, his performance has declined, demonstrating the difficulty of maintaining a high level. Medvedev’s trajectory serves as a reminder of the volatility of tennis. Despite the dominance of Alcaraz and Sinner, the unpredictability of tennis suggests that other players could emerge.

“I think Sinner and Alcaraz will dominate the next three, four years,” commented Patrick McEnroe, former US Open quarterfinalist and ESPN commentator.
