Alcaraz Advances to the Italian Open Final
In a display of dominance on clay, Carlos Alcaraz secured his place in the final of the Italian Open, after defeating Lorenzo Musetti with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (4). This achievement marks the third final in clay court tournaments for Alcaraz this season.
The Spanish tennis player, who previously won the Masters in Monte Carlo and was runner-up at the Barcelona Open, is preparing to defend his title at Roland Garros, which will begin on May 25.
In Sunday’s final, Alcaraz will face the winner of the match between Jannik Sinner and Tommy Paul.
In the women’s bracket, Saturday’s final will pit Coco Gauff against Jasmine Paolini.
In addition, Paolini and Sara Errani advanced to the women’s doubles final, after defeating the Russian pair made up of Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider.
Alcaraz, who withdrew from the Madrid tournament due to a right leg injury, has been using protection on the same leg during his participation in Rome.
Musetti, after losing the first set against Alcaraz in Monte Carlo, suffered a break of serve in the first game of the match, before a crowd mostly in his favor at the Campo Centrale.
The Italian tennis player was penalized with a point for unsportsmanlike conduct, after receiving a prior warning for breaking his racket.
This is Alcaraz’s second participation in the Italian Open. In his debut last year, he was eliminated in the third round by Hungarian qualifier Fabian Marozsan, while dealing with discomfort in his right forearm.
