Alcaraz Advances in the US Open Despite a Small Scare

Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, number two in the world, continues his path in the US Open. In his third-round match, he demonstrated his superiority against Luciano Darderi, although an incident with his knee caused concern. Alcaraz was dominating the match with a set and a break advantage when, after a false move while hitting a forehand, he felt discomfort in his right knee. This happened at Arthur Ashe Stadium, where the Spaniard was crowned champion in 2022. After requesting a medical timeout and receiving treatment on his leg, Alcaraz resumed the match with determination, winning the rest of the encounter and closing the score with a resounding 6-2, 6-4, 6-0. The Italian tennis player Darderi, ranked number 32, couldn’t handle Alcaraz’s game, who showed a great level despite the incident. The match lasted one hour and 44 minutes.

I felt something in my knee that wasn’t right, but after five or six points, it disappeared. I’m going to talk to my team, but I’m not worried.

Alcaraz achieved a total of 31 winners and committed 12 unforced errors, dominating in the short exchanges. In the next round, he will face Arthur Rinderknech, with whom he will seek to continue advancing in the tournament. Darderi acknowledged Alcaraz’s superiority, highlighting the difficulty of facing him or Jannik Sinner at this moment. With this victory, Alcaraz has 80 wins in Grand Slam tournaments, an achievement reached at a young age, similar to legends like Boris Becker, Bjorn Borg, and Rafael Nadal.
