Alcaraz Misses Davis Cup Due to Injury
Carlos Alcaraz will not be able to fulfill his dream of winning the Davis Cup for Spain this year. The world number one tennis player announced his withdrawal from the Davis Cup finals in Italy due to a hamstring injury. Alcaraz, through his social media, expressed his regret for not being able to represent Spain in Bologna. The doctors recommended that he not compete due to edema in his right hamstring.The injury occurred during last week’s ATP Finals, where he was diagnosed with muscle overload and inflammation in the right hamstring. Alcaraz, with a heavy heart, returns home. The tennis player debuted in the Davis Cup in 2022 and has an overall record of 6-2, with 5-1 in singles. Spain last won this tournament in 2019. Last year, Alcaraz was also unable to participate in the Davis Cup due to physical problems. Spain was eliminated in the first round of the Final 8 in Malaga, frustrating the last match of Rafael Nadal’s career. Alcaraz has expressed his desire to “win the Davis Cup someday… because for me it is a very important tournament”.
