Alcaraz advances to Wimbledon semifinals after defeating Norrie
Carlos Alcaraz continues his path towards his third consecutive title at Wimbledon, defeating Cameron Norrie in straight sets this Tuesday to reach the semi-finals at the All England Club.
Alcaraz, the second seed, secured his 23rd consecutive victory, extending the longest streak of his career at tour level.
This is the longest tour-level winning streak for any man aged 22 or under since Juan Martín del Potro’s 23-match winning streak in 2008, from Stuttgart to the US Open, when he was 19 years old.
Alcaraz dominated the first set in 28 minutes, with many seats in the Central Court still empty as fans sought refreshments after watching Aryna Sabalenka’s quarter-final victory, which lasted 2 hours and 54 minutes.
Alcaraz won 89% of the points with his first serve against Norrie, the highest mark in any major match of his young career.
American Taylor Fritz, the fifth seed, stands between Alcaraz and his return to the Wimbledon final, and will make his first appearance in the semi-finals at the All England Club.
Alcaraz seeks to become the fourth man to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year multiple times. He would join Bjorn Borg (3 times: 1978-80), Rod Laver (1962, 1969) and Rafael Nadal (2008, 2010).
