Wrexham falls to West Bromwich Albion in their return to the Championship
Wrexham, the team owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, suffered a 3-1 defeat against West Bromwich Albion in their first home match in the Championship since 1982. The match, held on Saturday, highlighted the challenge that the second division of English football represents.
Despite the presence of Reynolds and McElhenney in the stadium, a late goal by Sam Smith was not enough for Wrexham to earn points in the Championship this season.
Isaac Price put West Brom ahead in the 20th minute, but Lewis O’Brien equalized for Wrexham, leaving the score tied at halftime.
Jed Wallace put West Brom ahead again, and Price scored his second goal of the match, extending the lead to two goals with ten minutes remaining.
Ryan Mason’s team managed to hold onto the lead and took the three points from the STōK Cae Ras, positioning themselves at the top of the Championship table, despite Smith’s goal for Wrexham.
