Vinícius shines and Xabi Alonso praises after Real Madrid victory

Xabi Alonso praised Vinícius Júnior’s performance after the match in which the Real Madrid forward celebrated his return to the team by scoring a goal in the 2-1 victory over Mallorca on Saturday. Madrid found themselves trailing after Vedat Muriqi’s header for Mallorca at the Santiago Bernabéu, but two goals in a minute from Arda Güler and Vinícius turned the score around. It was the second goal in two games for Vinícius, who also scored from the bench last week against Real Oviedo, which ensured that Madrid went into the international break with three wins from three in LaLiga. [Vinícius] played well. It was a better match for him than against Osasuna and it was an important goal to put us ahead… I am happy with Vini’s game, he is scoring goals and that is important.

Madrid had three goals disallowed by VAR against Mallorca: two by Kylian Mbappé, disallowed for offside, and one by Güler for an involuntary handball.

Alonso commented that he was happy with his team’s trajectory so far this season, with their three victories before the break, which came after a shortened pre-season.

I would like to continue, and to have the players here. But we knew that in these three matches, after a mini pre-preseason, it was important to compete, to keep improving things, defining the path we want.
