Stalemate in Contract Negotiations of Vinícius Júnior with Real Madrid

Conversations about the renewal of Vinícius Júnior’s contract with Real Madrid are stalled, according to sources close to the club. There is a possibility that negotiations will not resume until after the 2026 World Cup.

The striker’s current contract with the white club expires in June 2027, which means that the Brazilian international and Ballon d’Or runner-up would enter the last year of his contract without having his future resolved.

Vinícius’s relationship with coach Xabi Alonso has become strained in recent months, and the player has been excluded from the starting eleven on several occasions. In addition, Vinícius reacted angrily after being substituted in the Clásico in October. Although the player’s contractual situation could change, no significant progress has been made in the negotiations. In May of this year, the club and the player’s representatives were close to reaching an agreement that included an annual salary of 20 million euros, plus 10 million euros in bonuses, according to a source. However, Vinícius’s environment considered that Madrid’s final offer did not match what was discussed, as it did not include bonuses. On the other hand, club sources stated that a verbal agreement had been reached that was not fulfilled, which caused discomfort among the directors. Subsequently, negotiations have not progressed. Vinícius’s current contract earns him around 17 million euros net per year. Vinícius’ representatives believe that, in the current context, it would not be wise to accept a small salary increase in exchange for a contract valid until 2030. Within the club, Madrid has shown optimism about its chances of securing a new deal with Vinícius, who has won two Champions Leagues and three LaLiga titles, establishing himself as one of the best players in the world since his arrival in 2018. However, another source revealed that senior executives are not happy with the way the player’s entourage has conducted the negotiations.
Fuentes aseguran que la relación entre Vinícius y el entrenador del Madrid, Xabi Alonso, se ha deteriorado.
Real Madrid initiated conversations with Vinícius’s camp earlier than usual, in February 2025, with more than two years remaining on his contract, after the forward sparked interest from the Saudi Pro League. Multiple sources linked to the club and the player have pointed to the signing bonuses received by Kylian Mbappé as a factor complicating the contract negotiations of Vinícius, who is seeking parity with his teammate. Although the relationship between both players is good, the deteriorated relationship between Vinícius and Alonso is a cause for greater concern. Vinícius issued a public apology on social media for his behavior after being substituted in the Clásico, without mentioning the coach. The forward remains an undisputed starter for Brazil under the direction of Carlo Ancelotti, ahead of the next World Cup.
