Toronto FC has reached a mutual agreement to terminate the contracts of Italian internationals Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi, as announced by the MLS club this Tuesday. Both players arrived in the summer of 2022 with high expectations and millionaire contracts. Insigne was the second-highest paid player in MLS, only behind Lionel Messi, with a guaranteed compensation of $15.44 million, according to data from the MLS Players Association last month. The club used its two guaranteed contract buy options, which each MLS team has per season, to part ways with the pair from Juventus. Insigne, 34 years old, had a contract until June 2026 with an option for the rest of that year. Bernardeschi, 31 years old, had an agreement until 2026 with a two-year option.

The Club would like to thank Lorenzo for his efforts over the last three years. After several meaningful conversations, we are pleased to have found a solution that is acceptable to all parties involved. We wish Lorenzo all the best in the future.
