Toronto FC Terminates Contracts of Insigne and Bernardeschi
Toronto FC has mutually agreed to terminate the contracts of Italian internationals Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi, the MLS club announced this Tuesday. Both players arrived in the summer of 2022 with high expectations and significant contracts. Insigne was the second-highest-paid player in MLS, only behind Lionel Messi, with a guaranteed compensation of $15.44 million, according to data from the MLS Players Association last month. The club used its two guaranteed contract termination options, which each MLS team has per season, to part ways with the pair who previously played for Juventus.Bernardeschi was the fifth-highest-paid player in MLS, with a guaranteed compensation of $6.29 million.The club would like to thank Lorenzo for his efforts over the past three years. After several meaningful conversations, we are pleased to have found a solution that is acceptable to all parties involved. We wish Lorenzo all the best in the future.

Distinguished, 34 years old, scored 19 goals and added 18 assists in 76 matches (66 as a starter) for Toronto in all competitions. This season, he had one goal and three assists in 13 MLS appearances. Bernardeschi, 31, recorded four goals and four assists in 15 MLS matches this season, ending his four-year MLS stint with 25 goals and 12 assists in 88 appearances.After internal conversations with Federico, we agreed that this was the right time to part ways.
