Ter Stegen Regains Barcelona Captaincy After Resolving Dispute
FC Barcelona announced this Friday the reincorporation of Marc-André ter Stegen as team captain. The decision comes after the German goalkeeper authorized the sending of his medical report to LaLiga, thus resolving a dispute that had arisen between both parties. On Thursday, the club had temporarily removed the captaincy from Ter Stegen. The disagreement originated when the goalkeeper, who recently underwent back surgery, initially refused to sign the consent form to share his medical data with LaLiga. This situation led Barcelona to consider legal action. However, the situation has been resolved. The club issued an official statement. This announcement came hours after Ter Stegen issued his own statement, expressing his willingness to collaborate with the club to resolve the matter and provide the requested authorization. Barcelona could free up at least 50% of the player’s salary for registration purposes under LaLiga’s injury provision, a rule that applies if a player is out of action for at least four months. Although Barcelona believes that Ter Stegen will be out for at least four months, the goalkeeper stated that he expected to return to action in just three months. In the event that Ter Stegen’s recovery time exceeds four months, Barça could terminate his contract and register other players. Ter Stegen issued a statement in which he clarified his position:The Club announces that the player Marc-André ter Stegen has signed the necessary authorization for the Club to send La Liga the medical report related to his surgery. The disciplinary file has been closed and the player is once again captain of the first team with immediate effect.

He also wanted to make it clear that “all the signings and renewals of the club were completed before my surgery. Therefore, at no time could I consider that my unfortunate circumstances with the new surgery I had to undergo were necessary for the registration of other teammates whom I respect very much and with whom I hope to share a locker room for many seasons.” Barcelona has yet to register five players eight days before starting the defense of their LaLiga title against Mallorca. In recent weeks, many things have been said about me, some of them completely unfounded. Therefore, I feel the need to express my version of the facts in a respectful but clear manner.
