The star forward, Son Heung-Min, experienced an unusual moment during the Europa League final awards ceremony on Wednesday.
Son, along with other Tottenham Hotspur players, went without a winner’s medal at the event.
The situation appeared to take UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin by surprise when the medals ran out before all Tottenham players could be honored after their 1-0 victory over Manchester United.
UEFA later explained that the problem arose because Tottenham sent too many people to receive medals during the ceremony.
According to the European governing body, clubs were informed that only 30 medals would be presented on stage to each team. However, an additional 20 medals were provided to the club after the ceremony for distribution to players and staff.
Son, who lifted the trophy in front of his teammates during the ceremony, was one of the few players who did not receive his medal on the field.
This triumph represented the first major title for Tottenham since 2008.
