Son Heung-Min close to signing for LAFC

South Korean international Son Heung-Min is on his way to join LAFC of the MLS. The official announcement is expected to be made starting Wednesday, according to sources close to the player. Son, 33 years old, announced his departure from Tottenham Hotspur of the Premier League last weekend, after a decade at the London club. At that time, he did not reveal his next destination. Sources confirm that Son is heading to LAFC for a figure close to 26 million dollars. If this materializes, this figure would exceed the 22 million dollars that Atlanta United FC invested last winter to acquire forward Emmanuel Latte Lath. Son played his last match with the Spurs on Sunday in Seoul, in a friendly against Newcastle United, which ended in a 1-1 draw. He was applauded and received a guard of honor from both teams when he was substituted in the second half.

It was a perfect moment. Sharing these beautiful moments is something I will never forget and will always cherish, from the fans, the players, and the coach. He understood my situation and was always on my side. He always listened to me and asked me what I wanted to do. I have great respect and I am very grateful.

In June 2023, Son received a lucrative offer from the Saudi club Al Ittihad, but chose to remain at Tottenham. Now, LAFC seems to have surpassed Al Ittihad in the race to sign him. Tottenham’s victory in the Europa League final over Manchester United gave Son the opportunity to lift his first trophy with the club, after becoming the seventh player to reach 450 appearances with the Spurs, with 198 goal contributions in the Premier League, since his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 for 22 million pounds ($29.8 million). Son would join an LAFC that currently occupies sixth place in the MLS Western Conference, although the team has at least two fewer games than the teams ahead of it in the standings.
