Son Heung-Min close to signing for LAFC

The South Korean international Son Heung-Min is ready to join the MLS team, LAFC. Sources close to the player confirm that the official announcement could be made on Wednesday. Son, 33 years old, announced his departure from Tottenham Hotspur of the Premier League last weekend, after a decade at the London club, without specifying his next destination at that time. Sources indicate that Son is heading to LAFC for a figure close to $26 million. If confirmed, this figure would exceed the $22 million that Atlanta United FC invested last winter to acquire forward Emmanuel Latte Lath. Son played his last match with the Spurs on Sunday in Seoul, in a friendly against Newcastle United, which ended in a 1-1 draw. Son received a standing ovation and a guard of honor from both teams when he was substituted in the second half.

It was a perfect moment. Sharing these beautiful moments is something I will never forget and will always cherish, from the fans, the players, and the coach. He understood my situation and was always on my side. He always listened to me and asked me what I wanted to do. I have great respect and I am very grateful.

In June 2023, Son attracted a lucrative offer from the Saudi team Al Ittihad, although he chose to remain at the club at that time. Now, it seems that LAFC has overtaken Al Ittihad in the race to sign Son. Tottenham’s victory in the Europa League final over Manchester United gave Son the opportunity to lift his first trophy for the club, after becoming the seventh player to reach 450 appearances with the Spurs, with 198 goal contributions in the Premier League, since his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 for £22 million ($29.8 million). Son will join an LAFC that currently occupies sixth place in the MLS Western Conference, although the team has at least two pending matches with respect to the teams that precede it in the standings.
