Sancho Returns to Manchester United After Failed Negotiations with Chelsea
Jadon Sancho is set to return to Manchester United after Chelsea failed to agree on personal terms for a permanent transfer. A source close to the player confirmed the situation.
Chelsea will be forced to pay a penalty of £5 million (approximately $6.7 million) to break the initial loan agreement with United, which included an obligation to buy Sancho for a fee close to £25 million. The source added that Chelsea asked Sancho for a significant reduction in his salary, exceeding £300,000 per week, to align with the club’s wage structure at Stamford Bridge, but talks broke down.
Sancho featured in 41 matches for Chelsea across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing 10 assists. The 25-year-old scored the third goal in Chelsea’s 4-1 victory over Real Betis in the UEFA Conference League final, securing the club’s first trophy under the ownership of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
The winger is now expected to weigh up his options, as several European clubs have shown interest in signing Sancho.
Sancho has a contract with Chelsea until June 30, but the club will leave London next week for the United States before the Club World Cup.Their first match is against LAFC on June 16 in Atlanta.
