Rodri Returns to Action with Manchester City After Injury
Midfielder Rodri returns to the Manchester City squad, marking his comeback after undergoing anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery in September. The player, a Ballon d’Or winner, could be available for the Club World Cup.
Initially, Rodri was expected to miss the rest of the season. However, he was already on the substitutes’ bench during the Premier League match against Bournemouth on Tuesday.
His recovery suggests that he will be available for the Club World Cup, which will begin next month.
Rodri’s last match was against Arsenal, where he suffered the injury in a 2-2 draw on September 22.
ACL injuries can require between six months and a year to heal. Rodri also suffered meniscus damage, but has been training for weeks.
City’s season was complicated after Rodri’s absence, the team gave up the league title before the end of the year and finished the season without trophies for the first time since 2017, after losing the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace.
Despite this, there is the possibility of lifting a trophy in the preseason, when City participates in the Club World Cup.
Rodri only played three matches with City this season before his injury.
He was awarded the Ballon d’Or for the best male footballer in the world in October, receiving the trophy on crutches.
