Real Madrid has announced that it will appeal the red card shown to Dean Huijsen in the 2-1 victory against Real Sociedad, according to Alofoke Deportes.
Huijsen was sent off in the 32nd minute of the match at the Reale Arena for a foul on Mikel Oyarzabal. Referee Jesús Gil interpreted that the forward was heading towards the goal and that the central defender was the last defender.
Madrid was already winning 1-0 thanks to Kylian Mbappé’s early goal and, despite playing with ten men, managed to secure a 2-1 victory in San Sebastián, thus adding four consecutive victories in LaLiga.
Militao was close. The ball wasn’t controlled. There were still 40 meters to go. That’s my interpretation, the referee had another, and VAR another. I asked for an explanation and it didn’t convince me much.

Dean Huijsen, defensa del Real Madrid, fue expulsado tras una controvertida falta a Mikel Oyarzabal.A source confirmed to Alofoke Deportes that Madrid will seek to revoke Huijsen’s expulsion, thus avoiding a possible suspension, at a time when Antonio Rüdiger is already out with a muscle injury that could keep him out for up to 12 weeks.
The club’s internal television channel, Real Madrid TV, announced after the match that Madrid was “compiling a dossier” on refereeing decisions from the last year, which they will send to FIFA so that the world football governing body “takes note of what is happening in Spain”.
Real Madrid has been critical of the refereeing standards in LaLiga for a long time, with Real Madrid TV broadcasting videos of alleged refereeing errors before and after matches, and president Florentino Pérez calling for a radical reform.
This summer, the Spanish football federation made significant changes to its refereeing committee, the CTA, including a new president and VAR chief, in an effort to address some of those criticisms.
The CTA has also begun to publish a weekly video analysis of controversial refereeing decisions, with incidents selected by a panel of former coaches, in some cases, acknowledging errors.
