Rashford close to joining Barcelona on loan

Marcus Rashford is about to finalize his loan to Barcelona for one season, after Manchester United gave the green light for the English striker to start talks with the Catalan club, according to sources close to the negotiation. Rashford, 27, has been training away from United’s first team for the last two weeks, after coach Ruben Amorim informed him that he is not part of his plans at Old Trafford. A six-month loan spell at Aston Villa last season did not translate into a permanent transfer for a pre-agreed fee of £40 million ($53.6 million), but sources say Rashford has always preferred to join Barcelona, following the possibility of such a transfer arising in January.

English striker Marcus Rashford could leave Manchester United on loan. After failing to secure the signing of Nico Williams, who renewed his contract with Athletic Club, and faced with Liverpool’s refusal for Luis Díaz, Barcelona has set its sights on Rashford, after United accepted a loan agreement with an option to buy. Rashford, with three years remaining on his £325,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford, has scored 138 goals in 426 games for United since his debut as an 18-year-old in February 2016.

He has also contributed to United’s success in the Europa League, and to two victories in the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup during his time at the club. However, he has not played for United since facing Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League last December, as Amorim left the player out of the 2-1 Premier League victory against Manchester City and has not considered him for the first team since then. Rashford and his representatives have been authorized to negotiate with Barcelona, but sources indicate that an agreement has not yet been reached between all parties.
