In an exciting final held in Doha, Qatar, Portugal won the FIFA U-17 World Cup title, after defeating Austria with a score of 1-0. The tournament, which featured 48 teams, saw European teams dominate, securing the top three spots. Benfica striker Anísio Cabral was the hero of the match by scoring the only goal in the 32nd minute. Cabral, who managed to stay in a legal position, received a cross and scored in front of the empty goal. This goal meant Cabral’s seventh goal in the championship, being one goal away from the winner of the Austrian Golden Ball, Johannes Moser.

Qatar hosted this edition and will also host it in the next four years. In the match for third place, Italy defeated Brazil in the penalty shootout with a score of 4-2, after a goalless draw. Italian goalkeeper Alessandro Longoni was key in stopping two penalties.
