Oscar, Former Chelsea Player, Discharged After Cardiac Episode
Brazilian midfielder Oscar, known for his time at Chelsea, has been discharged from the hospital after being admitted last week following a cardiac episode. The incident occurred on November 11 during a pre-season routine test at the training facilities of São Paulo, a Brazilian club where he currently plays. Oscar, 34 years old, felt unwell and temporarily lost consciousness while using a stationary bike. The player was admitted to the cardiology unit of the Einstein Hospital in São Paulo, where he underwent exhaustive examinations during the week. Finally, he was discharged on Sunday. The club added that, after remaining stable and in good clinical condition during his hospitalization, Oscar will follow a medical rest program for the next few days. Vasovagal syncope causes a sudden decrease in heart rate and blood pressure, which reduces blood flow to the brain and can cause a brief loss of consciousness. Oscar returned to São Paulo in December 2024, after eight years playing in China. His current contract is valid until the end of 2027.“Extensive investigations carried out at the hospital confirmed that the player presented a vasovagal syncope episode,” São Paulo FC reported in a statement.
