André Onana Joins Trabzonspor on Loan

Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana has been loaned to Trabzonspor of the Turkish Super League for a season, as confirmed by the Premier League club this Thursday.

Onana is leaving for Turkish football after a two-year period with ups and downs at Old Trafford and an irregular start to the season that relegated him to the bench, losing his starting position to Altay Bayindir.

The loan agreement does not include a fee or a purchase option, which means Onana will return to Manchester United next summer. Furthermore, the English club will not have to cover the goalkeeper’s salary during his loan.

Onana’s decision to leave United came after the arrival of Senne Lammens at the club from Antwerp on the last day of the transfer window, after having expressed his desire to stay and fight for a place at the beginning of the summer.

The 29-year-old player arrived at United in 2023 from Inter Milan for an initial fee of £43.8 million ($59.1 million).

The club’s statement was brief: “Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana has joined Trabzonspor on loan for the 2025/26 season, subject to international clearance and registration.”

“The transfer was completed before the closing of the Turkish transfer market on Friday. We wish André the best of luck.”

Onana played 102 matches with United and helped the team win the FA Cup in 2024.

The Turkish transfer market closes on Friday.

After the international break, United will return to action on Sunday against Manchester City.
