Benfica coach José Mourinho has dismissed any speculation about a possible return to Real Madrid this summer, calling the rumors a “soap opera”. The news comes after Real Madrid and Xabi Alonso ended their contract last week, naming Álvaro Arbeloa as his replacement.

Don’t count on me for soap operas. There are many good soap operas, but they take too long.

Mourinho, 62 years old, led Real Madrid for three seasons (2010-2013), winning a LaLiga title, a Copa del Rey, and a Spanish Super Cup.

The Benfica coach, who signed in September, has a contract until June 2027. Benfica, currently third in the Primeira Liga, 10 points behind leader FC Porto, will face Juventus on Wednesday in the Champions League, before hosting Real Madrid on January 28.
