Mason Mount has his sights set on a return to the England squad, after receiving a call from the new coach, Thomas Tuchel, which keeps his hopes of participating in the World Cup alive. Mount is focused on playing a full season with Manchester United, after two campaigns marked by injuries at Old Trafford since his transfer for 60 million pounds from Chelsea in 2023. The player admits that the possibility of playing for England again for the first time since 2022 provides him with extra motivation, especially after the call from Tuchel, his former coach at Stamford Bridge.

He [Tuchel] called me. He said he was calling a lot of players and just wanted to catch up. I don’t know how many players he’s called, 40 or 50 maybe.

Mason MountMount, who was a key player in Gareth Southgate’s England team that reached the Euro 2020 final, has not played international football since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, due to a series of injuries. The 26-year-old player knows Tuchel well, with whom he won the Champions League at Chelsea. Mount revealed that the German did not offer him “any guarantee” of a return to the national team, but he is eager to fight for a place in the 2026 World Cup, with the help of a positive season at United.

We won the Champions League, so that’s positive. But I think it’s totally different with England now. I think the competition for places, the number of people you can choose from, is a bit different from club football. So I don’t think they go hand in hand.
