Morocco Crowned U-20 World Champion Against Argentina

Morocco’s selection culminated a historic performance by defeating Argentina 2-0 in the final of the U-20 World Cup held in Chile.

This result represents Morocco’s first victory in a World Cup of any category in the country’s history.

Yassir Zabiri, player of FC Famalicao in the Portuguese first division, was the figure of the match by scoring two goals in the first half, ensuring the advantage for Morocco.

Morocco reached the final after overcoming South Korea, the United States, and France in the knockout rounds, solidifying an outstanding performance. Furthermore, it became the first African nation to win the U-20 title since Ghana in 2009.

This defeat marked Argentina’s first of the tournament, which was seeking its seventh title.

Argentina, despite the absence of its two best players in this category, Claudio Echeverri from Bayer Leverkusen and Franco Mastantuono from Real Madrid, managed to reach the final.

The Argentina national team is already qualified for the 2026 World Cup in North America, after reaching the semi-finals in the 2022 edition in Qatar, where they lost against France.

The Argentine team is the current world champion and is also qualified for next summer’s tournament.
