MLS 2025 Standings: Matchday 18 Analysis

The 2025 MLS season is in full swing and at Alofoke Deportes we present the analysis of the standings after matchday 18. Discover who is climbing the table and who is in free fall. Here’s the ranking of the 30 league teams, based on the performance of the last matchday.
  • Vancouver Whitecaps: They maintain the first place.
The Whitecaps suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Columbus Crew, conceding early goals that made their recovery difficult. Although this is only their second league loss this year.
  • Philadelphia Union: They remain in second position.
Bradley Carnell’s team achieved a 2-1 victory against Charlotte FC, with a crucial goal by Markus Anderson in stoppage time. Despite international absences, the Union demonstrated their strength.
  • Minnesota United: Stays in third place.
Minnesota United, after going ahead twice on the scoreboard, fell 4-2 to San Diego FC. This defeat breaks a streak of five games without losing.
  • Inter Miami CF: Stays in fourth place.
After a standout performance in the league, Inter Miami couldn’t get past Al Ahly’s goalkeeper in the Club World Cup. Their next challenges will be against Porto and Palmeiras.
  • Nashville SC: Stays in fifth place.
Nashville defeated Chicago Fire 2-0, with goals from Hany Mukhtar and Sam Surridge. The team has the help of Andy Najar, who missed the Gold Cup to support his team.
  • Columbus Crew: Stays in sixth place.
After a defeat against Inter Miami, the Crew recovered with a 2-1 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps. The style of play preferred by Wilfried Nancy was on display throughout the match.
  • Seattle Sounders: Stays in seventh place.
The Sounders are out of league action for several weeks, participating in the Club World Cup following their victory in the 2022 Concacaf Champions Cup. They will face Botafogo, Atletico Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain.
  • San Diego FC: Stays in eighth place.
After conceding an initial goal, San Diego FC reacted with a goal from Anders Dreyer. SDFC maintained their style of play, with Dreyer scoring another penalty goal and assisting a teammate.
  • Orlando City: They remain in ninth place.
Orlando City achieved a 1-0 victory against the Colorado Rapids, demonstrating their ability to win in any circumstance. The goal came in one of the few shots on goal of the match.
  • LAFC: Stays in tenth place.
After qualifying for the Club World Cup, LAFC prepares for the tournament. They will face Chelsea, Esperance de Tunis, and Flamengo.
  • FC Cincinnati: Stays in eleventh place.
A goal by Kevin Denkey gave Cincy a 1-0 victory against the New England Revolution. It’s his eleventh goal of the season.
  • Portland Timbers: Stays in twelfth place.
The Timbers tied 1-1 with the San Jose Earthquakes, despite the Quakes playing with one man less.
  • Charlotte FC: Stays in thirteenth place.
Despite another goal from Wilfried Zaha, Charlotte FC couldn’t earn points, losing 2-1 against Philadelphia Union. Consistency remains an issue for the team.
  • San Jose Earthquakes: Stays in fourteenth place.
San Jose achieved a 1-1 draw against the Timbers, despite Ian Harkes’s expulsion.
  • New York Red Bulls: They remain in fifteenth place.
A 2-1 defeat to Austin FC interrupted the Red Bulls’ winning streak.
  • New York City FC: Rises to sixteenth place.
Hannes Wolf scored two goals in the 4-0 victory over Atlanta United.
  • Chicago Fire: Falls to seventeenth place.
The Chicago Fire lost 2-0 to Nashville SC, but the defeat was less heavy than in their previous encounter.
  • Austin FC: Rises to eighteenth place.
Brandon Vazquez scored the winning goal for Austin FC in the 2-1 victory over the New York Red Bulls.
  • New England Revolution: Falls to nineteenth place.
The Revs lost 1-0 against FC Cincinnati.
  • FC Dallas: Rises to twentieth place.
FC Dallas defeated Sporting KC 4-2.

The Rapids lost 1-0 against Orlando City, adding their third consecutive loss.
  • Houston Dynamo: Falls to twenty-second place.
The Dynamo lost 3-1 against CF Montreal.
  • D.C. United: Falls to twenty-third place.
D.C. United lost 2-0 against Real Salt Lake.
  • Atlanta United: Falls to twenty-fourth place.
Atlanta United lost 4-0 against New York City FC.
  • Real Salt Lake: Rises to twenty-fifth place.
RSL defeated D.C. United 2-0.
  • Sporting Kansas City: Falls to twenty-sixth place.
Sporting KC lost 4-2 against FC Dallas.
  • Toronto FC: Remains in twenty-seventh place.
Toronto FC will not play until June 25th.
