American midfielder Djordje Mihailovic joins Toronto FC from the Colorado Rapids in a transfer that could reach $9 million, according to MLS clubs. The Colorado Rapids will receive $8 million guaranteed and up to an additional $1 million subject to the fulfillment of certain performance metrics. This move becomes the second-largest cash transfer in MLS history, surpassed only by FC Cincinnati’s acquisition of Evander. In addition, Colorado retains a percentage on a future sale of the player, who has signed a contract as a Designated Player with Toronto until 2028, with a club option for 2029. Mihailovic, who arrived at the Rapids in January 2024 from the Dutch club AZ Alkmaar, requested the transfer “for personal reasons”.
The player added that he requested the transfer to Toronto for personal reasons and thanked the club for its professionalism and understanding in facilitating the transfer.I want to thank everyone at the Colorado Rapids for everything they have done for me over the past year. This club brought me from Europe and supported me in my dream of representing the United States in the Olympics.
