Lionel Messi continues to make history in football, solidifying his legacy with impressive records in Major League Soccer (MLS). In the recent match on Saturday, the Argentine star scored two goals, securing Inter Miami’s 2-1 victory over Nashville SC. Messi, who had already set a new record the previous week by becoming the first player in MLS history to score multiple goals in four consecutive league matches, extended his streak to five straight games with multiple goals. With a goal in each half, Messi led Miami to their fifth consecutive victory in the MLS. Furthermore, Messi now shares the MLS scoring lead, with 16 goals in just 15 games played this season, tying Nashville player Sam Surridge. The first goal by Messi came in the 17th minute, with a masterful free kick that surpassed the barrier and Nashville goalkeeper, Joe Willis, with a low shot that snuck into the lower corner of the net. This was Messi’s 69th goal from a direct free kick and his sixth with Miami. In addition, he scored in his sixth consecutive MLS match, leaving him just one short of equaling his best streak in the league, established last year.

The second goal, which extended his record, came in the 62nd minute. Messi intercepted a misplaced pass from Willis and, calmly, evaded the Nashville goalkeeper before sending the ball into the net. This is the first time Messi has achieved five consecutive matches with multiple goals since his time at Barcelona in LaLiga in 2012. Among Messi’s goals, Hany Mukhtar scored for Nashville, following a cross from Andy Nájjar. The victory went to Miami, who reduced the distance with the leaders of the Eastern Conference, Philadelphia Union and FC Cincinnati, to five points, although with three pending matches due to their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup.
