Messi Envisions His Future: From the Field to Club Ownership
Argentine star Lionel Messi, current captain of Inter Miami CF, has revealed his plans for after hanging up his boots. In an interview with Luzu TV, Messi shared his vision for the future, ruling out the idea of becoming a coach, but showing a great interest in the management and ownership of a club.This statement comes at a time when Messi signed a contract extension with Inter Miami, ensuring his presence on the field for a few more years. However, the Argentinian is already exploring the world of property, partnering with his former teammate Luis Suárez in the Deportivo LSM project, a team in the Uruguayan fourth division. The club, whose initials represent Luis Suárez and Messi, has a team of 80 professionals and more than 3,000 members. Suárez expressed his desire to offer opportunities to young Uruguayan talents, a project that Messi has embraced with enthusiasm. Additionally, Messi has launched the Messi Cup, a U-16 youth tournament that brought together eight academy teams from around the world in Miami, with the aim of fostering development and competition in grassroots football. The River Plate was crowned champion of the first edition of the Messi Cup in December, defeating Atlético Madrid in the final. Meanwhile, Messi continues to focus on his career as a player, with Inter Miami starting the 2026 MLS season on February 21.“I don’t see myself as a coach. I like the idea of being a manager, but I would prefer to be an owner. I would like to have my own club, start from the bottom and make it grow. Being able to give the kids the opportunity to develop and achieve something important. If I had to choose, that’s what would attract me the most,” Messi stated.
