Kylian Mbappé has filed a legal complaint against Paris Saint-Germain, accusing the club of psychological harassment. The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed the news this Thursday. The Real Madrid star is at odds with his former club, arguing that PSG owes him 55 million euros in unpaid wages. Mbappé also expressed his discontent with the treatment he received from the Ligue 1 club when he was sidelined before the 2023-24 season, following his decision not to extend his contract.

In France, the term “lofting” is used to describe the practice of isolating or setting aside a player from the main team for sporting, administrative, or disciplinary reasons. Mbappé joined Real Madrid last summer as a free agent, after scoring a record of 256 goals in seven years with PSG. The Parisian team won the Champions League without him this year. Mbappé’s relationship with PSG ended amid deep tension, with some fans booing him in his last home match at the Parc des Princes. PSG felt disappointed by Mbappé after offering him the most lucrative contract in the club’s history when he signed in 2022. According to reports, Mbappé was frustrated because he felt that the promises to sign key players were not kept. When he signed in 2022, he was presented to the fans holding a jersey with the number 2025. Mbappé was upset because the contract was until 2024, with an option for the player for an additional season. In June 2023, Mbappé surprised PSG by informing the club that he would not exercise the option of an additional year. With his contract in its final year, PSG was in the need to sell Mbappé to avoid losing him for free when the contract expired. His time at PSG could have ended that summer amid a tense standoff over his transfer. After informing the club that he would not extend his contract, Mbappé was excluded from the squad for the pre-season tour to Japan and South Korea and forced to train separately from the first team. PSG said they would prefer to sell him rather than let the player leave for free in 2024, but rejected a 300 million euro offer from Al Hilal of the Saudi Pro League. PSG left Mbappé out of the first league match of that season, but he soon returned to the starting lineup after talks with the club. Mbappé’s legal team announced in April that they would take action against PSG for harassment due to the way he was treated at that time.
