Mbappé Reaches 50 Goals with Real Madrid: A Historic Milestone
Real Madrid’s star forward, Kylian Mbappé, continues to leave his mark on the white club. Recently, the Frenchman reached the 50-goal mark, solidifying his position as one of the most effective forwards in the team’s history.
In an exciting Champions League match against Marseille, Mbappé proved his worth by scoring two crucial goals, both from the penalty spot. These goals not only secured Real Madrid’s victory, but also marked the milestone of 50 goals for Mbappé in the merengue shirt.
The second penalty converted by Mbappé was his sixth goal in five games this season, and the number 50 since his arrival at the club in July 2024.
Mbappé after goal number 50: “I do what Xabi wants”
Although Mbappé has reached this figure in a relatively short time, with 64 appearances, he is not the fastest player to achieve it in the history of Real Madrid. Here we present the players who surpass Mbappé in this statistic.
- Manuel Alday (57 matches)
- Pahiño (61 matches)
- Pruden (62 matches)
Fastest to Reach 50 Goals with Real Madrid
Despite not being the fastest, Mbappé has surpassed legends like Ronaldo Nazário, Hugo Sánchez, Karim Benzema, and Raúl González.
T-4. Alfredo Di Stéfano (50 goals in 56 matches)
Di Stéfano, a name synonymous with Real Madrid and its golden years in the 1950s and 1960s, ranks fourth among the club’s all-time top scorers. He scored 308 goals in 396 matches and won 17 major titles during his 10 years at the Bernabéu. After scoring 27 goals in 28 matches in the 1953-54 season, Di Stéfano maintained that formidable form and surpassed the 50-goal mark before the end of the 1954-55 season.
T-4. Ferenc Puskás (56 matches)
Puskas, who joined Madrid at the age of 31, scored no less than four hat-tricks in his debut season in La Liga (1958-59), playing alongside Di Stéfano in Los Blancos’ winning team. After scoring 25 goals in his first campaign, the “Galloping Major” raised the stakes the following season, when he scored 47 goals in 36 matches. He surpassed his half-century of goals while winning his second consecutive European Cup, scoring four goals in the epic 7-3 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the final.
3. Cristiano Ronaldo (54 matches)
Cristiano Ronaldo, a modern colossus in terms of goals, had a blistering start after his record transfer from Manchester United. The Portuguese star began the 2009-10 season with five goals in his first four appearances and finished with 33 goals in 35 matches with Los Blancos, despite not winning any title. Ronaldo’s 50th goal came in November, when a hat-trick in a 5-1 thrashing of Athletic Club (his third hat-trick with Madrid) allowed him to end the night with an impressive total of 51 goals in 54 matches with the Spanish team.
2. Gaspar Rubio (49 matches)
Even Ronaldo’s prolific goal rate pales in comparison to the two players topping the list, both of whom reached their first 50 goals for Madrid in under 50 games. Unusually, Rubio’s half-century of goals was amassed over the course of two different spells at Los Blancos, with the Spanish forward scoring 30 goals in two seasons for the club between 1928 and 1930 and then a further run during a second period in the late 30s and early 40s.
1. Fernando Sañudo (47 matches)
With an impressive goal rate of one goal every 0.94 matches, Sañudo reached 50 goals in record time for Real Madrid between 1934 and 1936 and then – like so many other footballers of the time – saw his career cut short by the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. In addition to his prolific production, Sañudo will always be remembered in Real Madrid folklore for being the man who scored four goals in the biggest victory over Barcelona: an 8-2 demolition in a Clásico at the Bernabéu in February 1935.
