Mascherano: “We need everyone to beat New York City FC”

Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano emphasized the importance of having every player in the squad for the match against New York City FC in the Eastern Conference final. The match will be played on Saturday night at Chase Stadium.

“We know how we are going to play. It’s not my style to reveal the lineup until the last day,” said Mascherano.

Mascherano believes that keeping all players focused is crucial, highlighting that not only the starting eleven are important, but the entire team. In these instances, the alertness and willingness of each player are fundamental.

Recently, Mascherano made changes to the starting lineup, opting for Mateo Silvetti in attack instead of Luis Suárez, a decision that the coach described as “difficult”.

“When you have to make decisions, Luis’s situation is particularly challenging due to his trajectory and his importance to the club and the team,” explained Mascherano.

The coach added that, although these decisions are difficult, they are made prioritizing the group and what is best for each match, always seeking to explain his reasons to the players, even if they do not request them. Mascherano’s strategy resulted in a 4-0 victory over FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium, with goals from Lionel Messi, Tadeo Allende, and Mateo Silvetti, securing a place in the Eastern Conference final for the first time in the club’s history. Despite the two consecutive victories in the playoffs, Mascherano warned that Saturday’s match will not be easy. Mascherano also mentioned that Saturday’s match will be very difficult, as they will face an opponent that has earned the right to be in the conference final, a team that has won all three playoff games away from home.

“Our mindset and focus must be on going to tomorrow’s match and seeking victory from the first minute, just as we did against Nashville and against Cincinnati,” added Mascherano.
