Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush suffered a knee ligament injury during Egypt’s World Cup qualifier against Burkina Faso.
The incident occurred in the ninth minute of the match, which ended in a scoreless draw in Ouagadougou.
Marmoush, 26, was the victim of a strong tackle in the fourth minute and, although he received treatment on the field, had to be substituted.
The Egyptian Football Federation published on its X account an image of the player leaving the field with the medical staff, with the caption: “Omar Marmoush suffers a contusion in the knee ligament”.
Marmoush, who scored on Friday in Egypt’s 2-0 victory over Ethiopia in Cairo, will be assessed by Manchester City before the Manchester derby.
The January signing from Eintracht Frankfurt has been a starter in the last two matches of the top category, both with a defeat against Tottenham and Brighton, after having come on as a substitute in the 4-0 victory in the first match against the Wolves.
