María Sánchez close to returning to Tigres: Advanced negotiations
San Diego Wave’s winger and Mexican national team player, María Sánchez, is in “very advanced” negotiations with Tigres of the Liga MX Femenil, according to sources close to the situation.
This transfer would mark the return of the Mexican-American soccer player to Tigres, the team she represented in 2021.
Currently under contract with the Wave, Sánchez signed with the NWSL team in 2024, with an agreement that extends until 2026 and an option for 2027. She arrived as a key player for the Wave in 2024, but the 29-year-old player has become a rotation option, with only two starts in her last seven appearances with the NWSL club.
The arrival of Sánchez to the team from Monterrey could signify a new stage in the reconstruction of Tigres, following the incorporation of the Mexican international forward Diana Ordóñez, coming from the Houston Dash at the end of May.
