Manchester United Hopes to Inaugurate its New Stadium in Six Years

Manchester United has high hopes of inaugurating its new stadium in the next six years, according to the stadium development CEO. In March 2025, the club presented plans for a new stadium with a capacity for 100,000 spectators.

Although there have been few public advances since then, the £2 billion project has progressed “behind the scenes”, according to Collette Roche, stadium development chief executive. The club estimates that, after securing the land and the necessary financing, the construction of the stadium will take between “four and five years”.

I think when we launched the idea of a new stadium 12 months ago, we said construction would take between four and five years, and that’s correct.

Roche insists that the deadline has always been to open the doors before the 2032-33 season at the latest. The club needs land adjacent to the Old Trafford site for the project. Negotiations with the rail freight and logistics company Freightliner have been problematic, but Roche said the club expects to make an announcement “in the coming months” after positive talks. Roche added:

We want to make sure we get the best possible location for this stadium, one that has a lot of land around it to put the right facilities, one that is connected and offers a great matchday experience.

He added that he hopes to be able to share positive news on this front in the coming months.
