Luis Enrique: “Tottenham Deserved to Win”

Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique expressed his surprise after his team’s victory in the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur, highlighting that, in his opinion, the Spurs deserved the win. The match, which was decided in a dramatic penalty shootout, saw the Parisians come back from a losing score in the final minutes of the match. Nuno Mendes was in charge of scoring the decisive penalty, completing PSG’s comeback, which seemed improbable when Tottenham led 2-0 in the 85th minute of regular time.

“For 80 minutes we didn’t deserve that, I think Tottenham deserved to win the match because they were in shape, they trained for six weeks and played a great game,” Luis Enrique told TNT Sports.

The coach highlighted the importance of his players’ faith and the fans’ support until the last moment. Lucas Chevalier’s debut, a newly arrived goalkeeper from Lille, was a key moment. Chevalier, who took over as the starter after Gianluigi Donnarumma’s departure, had a bittersweet performance. Although he conceded the first goal, he also saved a penalty in the decisive shootout. Enrique highlighted Chevalier’s personality, crucial for a club like PSG. Vitinha, for his part, emphasized the team spirit, where mutual support is fundamental.
