Klopp Praises MLS Growth and Visits the Red Bulls

Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has expressed his admiration for the quality of Major League Soccer (MLS) and predicts continued growth in the next five years. During his visit to the New York Red Bulls this week, Klopp shared his impressions of the American league. After leaving Liverpool last year, Klopp took on the role of global football head with Red Bull. He took the opportunity to witness the MLS team’s training before the Hudson River derby against New York City FC on Saturday.

I am 100% sure, in five years we will speak in a completely different way. I am sure it will grow and grow and grow.

Klopp highlighted the improvement in the quality of the game, the presence of young talents, and the high intensity in the matches, essential elements for the football spectacle. He believes that MLS has found its place and is now ready to continue moving forward.

MLS’s record investment in signings, which almost doubled the previous record, demonstrates the league’s ambition to compete with the major European leagues. The arrival of figures like Lionel Messi to Inter Miami in 2023 has boosted the popularity of the league. The incorporation of Son Heung-Min to Tottenham Hotspur for a record $26 million in 2025 has also generated great expectation. The New York Red Bulls, one of the clubs owned by the energy drink brand, are under Klopp’s supervision, along with other teams such as RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg, and Bragantino. Despite Klopp’s presence, the New York Red Bulls lost 3-2 against NYCFC on Saturday, placing them in tenth place in the Eastern Conference. Klopp, however, was optimistic about the team’s chances of extending their streak of 15 consecutive playoff appearances. Klopp also praised the Red Bulls’ new training facilities in Morris Township, New Jersey, calling them “outstanding”.
