Keylor Navas signs with Pumas UNAM: A new adventure in Mexico
The renowned Costa Rican goalkeeper, Keylor Navas, has taken a significant step in his career by joining the ranks of Pumas UNAM in Liga MX. After receiving the proposal, Navas did not hesitate to seek advice from two key figures in his career: his former teammate at Real Madrid, Sergio Ramos, and the coach of Costa Rica, Miguel Herrera. This signing marks Navas’ return to Mexican soccer, after a brief six-month stint in Argentina with Newell’s Old Boys. The 38-year-old goalkeeper arrives at Pumas with the aim of reinforcing the team and contributing to break the 14-year title drought.
The transfer, according to reports, includes a compensation of $2 million for Newell’s Old Boys. Navas and Ramos’ experience together at Real Madrid, where they won three Champions League titles, and later at Paris Saint-Germain, where they won Ligue 1 in 2022, has been fundamental in the goalkeeper’s decision. Sergio Ramos, who now plays in Monterrey, shared his experience in Mexico with Navas, who also considered the competitiveness and growth of Liga MX, as well as the infrastructure of the clubs. In the press conference, Navas highlighted the influence of James Rodríguez, who also plays in Mexico, as another important factor in his decision.I am here eager to give it my all, to push myself and to be on the court playing at the highest level. I have the mindset to make history, to be able to win a title. I believe we can achieve those goals by working with humility.
