Inter Miami defender Jordi Alba has confirmed his decision to retire from professional soccer at the end of the current Major League Soccer (MLS) season. This news comes after a deep reflection by the player on his future.

“It’s a decision I’ve been mulling over and maturing over time,” Alba stated.

Alba, who renewed his contract with the club in May, explained that this decision was made after considering several personal and professional factors. The player expressed that, although he feels good physically, he prefers to step aside so as not to compromise the performance he hopes to offer. The soccer player arrived at Inter Miami in 2023, joining his former Barcelona teammates, Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi. Together, they were part of the team that won the Leagues Cup 2023, the Supporters’ Shield 2024, and set a league points record.

Before her time in Miami, Alba enjoyed a successful career in Barcelona, where she won six LaLiga titles and a Champions League, among other achievements. Her 16-year career comes to an end, and now she will seek one last triumph in the MLS playoffs with Inter Miami. Coach Javier Mascherano acknowledged that Alba’s decision will be difficult for the club, although it was not a surprise. Mascherano highlighted the importance of respecting the personal decisions of the players.

“They are personal decisions. The important thing is that he does it naturally,” commented Mascherano.
