Raúl Jiménez Honors Diogo Jota After Scoring in the Gold Cup
Mexican striker, Raúl Jiménez, paid an emotional tribute to his former teammate, Diogo Jota, after scoring a crucial goal against the United States in the Gold Cup. The news of Jota’s death, along with his brother André Silva, in a tragic car accident near Zamora, Spain, shocked the world of football. The event occurred in the early hours of Thursday. Jiménez, who shared a locker room with Jota for two seasons at Wolverhampton Wanderers (2018-2020), scored in the 27th minute of the match. In his celebration, the Mexican striker took a Mexico jersey with Jota’s name and the number 20 on the back, then sat on the field to show it to the cameras. Jota and his brother’s funeral services were held on Saturday morning in Gondomar, Portugal.“He was a great teammate, with whom I was with for two years at Wolves and with whom I kept in regular contact. We shared some very beautiful moments,” declared Jiménez in the press conference prior to Saturday’s match.
