Newcastle close to securing Nick Woltemade signing
According to sources close to the matter, Newcastle United is on the verge of finalizing a deal for £64.9 million (87.5 million dollars) to sign VfB Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade. The German international is expected to undergo a medical on Friday.
Woltemade, 23 years old and twice international with Germany, will present himself at the club’s training facilities on Friday morning.
The 6-foot-6-inch striker had also been a target for Bayern Munich, but Newcastle have taken the lead in the race for the player after Stuttgart accepted their offer.
The successful completion of the Woltemade deal could open the door for Alexander Isak to complete his move to Liverpool, although sources indicate that the Premier League champions have yet to increase their £110 million bid for the Swedish international, after it was rejected by Newcastle earlier this month.
Newcastle has had a complicated summer in the transfer market, with difficulties attracting a new striker.
Attempts to sign Liam Delap, João Pedro, Benjamin Sesko, and Hugo Ekitike did not materialize, as each player chose to join a Premier League rival.
Newcastle are still trying to strengthen their squad, with possible moves for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa and Wolves striker Jørgen Strand Larsen, before the Monday 7 p.m. BST transfer deadline.
